I visited this community centre for a Google Garage event. This building is fit for the purpose of the event – accommodating people for the event, providing refreshment and having a private space for people to have personal meeting with the experts. There are car parking facilities directly infront of the building. This is very convenient. The weakness experienced in this hall was the poor performance of the Wifi facilities. This would have been considered in the selection of the venue for an event that is about the wireless digital world of the internet.

Alton Community Centre is steeped in history. Originally built as a brewery in the early 19th century by Moses Fielder and his son John. It then became an iron works, a warehouse, a fire station, a car workshop,an ARP station during WW2 and an underwear factory.
Today the building is used by the the towns people for various classes and activities. There are a number of different rooms that can be rented out for private functions etc. there is also a cafe and public conveniences located inside.

Staff were friendly and helpful, toilets were clean, the place was nicely - if functionally - decorated.

I've knocked a star off because the room we used was a bit reverberant which made it hard to hear what was going on. The bigger hall has far better acoustic properties so get that if you want to be able to have easier conversations in a large group.

Just not the centre, it was Alton's Christmas market
Lots of stalls throughout the town, both small firms, charities, and crafts. A great visit.
