We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Appleby Castle. The main attraction for us was the historical aspect and it did not disappoint! Absolutely beautiful furniture in the rooms and it felt totally authentic (because it was I guess!) our room was decorated beautifully.||We weren’t originally going to stay for food in the evening but after speaking to Peter we decided to book in for dinner which was lovely. We enjoyed a meal in one of the beautiful dining rooms accompanied by some fantastic live piano music (from Peter) which was a real treat. Food was delicious too and the Prosecco glasses were generously sized which is always good! ||Breakfast was very tasty and service was quick. Absolutely loved walking around the grounds and soaking up all of the history! Would definitely stay again. Peter and other staff members are clearly very hard working and we really appreciated the mini tour he did for us telling us about some of the history of the castle and its inhabitants.

This short break was booked as an additional stay in a visit to the UK. We are very glad we booked. From immediately arriving everything was excellant, on driving into Appleby Castle it looked amazing, exactly what you expect from arriving at a castle and period home.||On checking in we were taken to our room (Clifford room) and it was perfect. A period room that fit perfectly in the setting steeped in history. The views were awesome, the room was awesome with a modern bathroom across the hall. The bed was very comfortable and the house was so quiet. ||We booked a impromptu breakfast and dinner, very glad we did (so much we immediately booked the next days breakfast) the service was top class, the food was amazing, nothing was to much trouble and very relaxed. The second breakfast we didn't even need to order as he remembered our order. ||Dinner was a great experiance, meeting the owner and manager, having a drink and chat in the bar then being shown to the dining room, classical music when eating and a fire.||Before leaving Peter opened the Norman keep and we had a look around. It was very interesting loved wandering around it. ||The whole experiance was better than expected, it began to feel like a home before we left and I would love to return during Xmas with snow on the ground. ||5 stars is not enough!!!

Spending New Year's Eve was a huge step out of the ordinary for us. However, having an overnight babysitter galvanised us into going out out. We decided upon a stay and NYE gala meal and entertainment at Appleby Castle. Our approach to the castle blew us away. The ancient Norman Keep dominating the view. A super friendly check-in and tour to our room. A glorious four poster room with en suite and tapestries. We were allowed to poke around and enjoy the secrets of the castle, which was really fun. |The food was incredible, and the piper/ piano accompaniment delightful. The ensuing truly retro disco was fabulous.|The surroundings and hosts mean this is a truly special place to visit.|It is clear that sharing their historic home is important to them, and my husband particularly enjoyed his trip to the top (102 steps of spiral staircase) of the Norman keep.|We can't wait to return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay. Its every thing a castle should be - creaky floor boards, doors, long dark corridors, suits of armour and ancient portraits. Our room had the bathroom across the hallway but this was a very minor inconvenience . We ate the first night in the large dining room - food was very good (stuffed mushrooms starter in particular). Breakfast was served in another large dining room - cooked to order. Will definitely return

From beginning to end, this place is truly enchanting! The castle exudes charm, and the staff is incredibly welcoming. Dining here is an experience not to be missed; the food is absolutely delicious!||||Although the castle could use a bit of tender loving care, embracing its character only deepens your affection for this magical spot. You'll fall in love with it!||||We stayed in the Evidence Room, which featured a beautifully carved four-poster bed. It also had an ensuite bathroom, so we didn't have to wander across the hallway as mentioned in other reviews.

I am writing to provide feedback regarding my recent stay at Appleby Castle, as I believe it is important to share my experience.

Unfortunately, my visit did not meet my expectations, primarily due to the unavailability of advertised facilities. The hot tub and gym, which were significant factors in my choice to stay, were not accessible during my visit. Additionally, I found it challenging to locate staff for assistance; there seemed to be no personnel available at the reception or in the bar area.

I also encountered some inconvenience with the tea and coffee facilities in my room, which were lacking milk. Despite my efforts to find assistance, I was unable to locate any staff to help with this matter.

Given the rate of £145 for my overnight stay, I was disappointed with the overall experience and felt it did not provide the value I had anticipated

We stayed at Appleby Castle in November 2024 for the second time and had an amazing time!||The place, furniture, surroundings and whole atmosphere is just beautiful and the building is so incredibly well maintained as it was intended to be instead of being modernised like a lot of places are today. This really works in its favour as an incredibly unique and thoroughly enjoyable experience.||We had supper and breakfast in the amazing dining hall and the food was absolutely wonderful. The chef (I think Craig?) was so lovely and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.||We also visited the Norman keep which is a fantastically restored attraction absolutely packed with history and amazing views!||Having read a lot of the reviews, it‘s important to remember that Appleby is quite different to your average hotel resort - it’s a proper historic castle with so much character and atmosphere - enjoying this history should be the reason why someone books to go here.||We’ll be back! 🙂 thank you for a fab night away!
