Putting in my long term review of iSmash service, particularly the Charing Cross branch.
My iPhone 13 pro unfortunately got water damaged June 24, and the phone lost faceID capability, as well as being in a continual boot loop every few minutes. I was panicked, and although most of my data was backed up, the thought of my phone incapacitated and being forced to buy a replacement dawned on me.
I visited many stores to try and get a diagnosis. Apple was not much help with getting to a fix, and offered me a replacement phone for 550. other phone stores near my local area, including other iSmash locations also had no clue what the issue was, and refused to service the phone. I even had one in Croydon ask me to give him my phone password in order for him to take a look at what was going on - which i politely declined.
I stumbled across this store in my search, and met a lovely man named Daniel. After explaining the issue, and running initial diagnosis tests, he already narrowed down the bootloop issue to a faulty charging port logic. And although he could not fix the faceID issue (Apple has blocked that within its software), he did offer to replace the charging port logic and service a new battery for 110 or so - that should at least make the phone work again.
I was skeptical at first, with him being the only person to diagnose the issue so quickly, but out of desperation I gave it a go. It was a pain to initially wait for the new parts to come in, which took a week, but once they did, Daniel managed to turn the phone around within a day.
He confirmed the phone was operational again - to my relief, which I gladly collected from him that same afternoon.
I initially thought this fix would only last a few months, given the issue, yet to this day it works fine, 8 months later. Yes the phone overheats when it gets warm, and faceID is only a memory at this point, but the phone is still chugging along - I think I can stretch it out till the next iphones release.
I don't usually do reviews, but this is definitely an exception. I want to thank Daniel in helping when no one else would, and putting in a fix that actually lasts. I did promise you a review, and although it's 8 month overdue, I kept my promise 🙂
PS - I hope he still works there, I am not seeing his name on review anymore
