I am extremely disappointed with the service I received from MacGuys regarding the repair of my MacBook Air. After paying £300 and spending two months trying to resolve the issue, the core problem—my battery—remains unresolved. Instead, I was charged for unnecessary services, and my laptop has now suffered additional damage, and my attempts to resolve this fairly are being ignored (see screenshot).
From the beginning, I informed them that the issue was likely the battery. However, I was charged £200 for a diagnosis and logic board replacement instead, which did not resolve the problem and I then also started experiencing network connectivity issues. Yousuf then claimed I had a software issue, charging me £100 (cash in hand, no receipt) for a software patch that made my laptop slower and lag, while the crashing issue persisted. Yousuf then dismissed this as a virus issue, leaving me to investigate it myself.
To make matters worse, my previously functional trackpad was returned broken. When I raised this, Yousuf claimed it was just “because my machine is old,” even though the damage occurred in his care.
Frustrated, I went to the Apple Store, where they confirmed in 20 minutes that the battery was completely dead, and informed me that diagnostic services and software updates are offered free of charge at Apple, even for out-of-warranty devices, and I have been scammed into paying for these.
I have sent polite, reasonable messages requesting a partial refund for the unnecessary services and a replacement battery. These have been dismissed, with Yousuf claiming he cannot refund me due to the time he spent on my laptop—time that resulted in no resolution—and now my messages are being ignored. This is both unprofessional and deeply frustrating.
This entire experience has left me out of pocket, with a mishandled laptop and no resolution to the original issue. I urge Yusuf to take responsibility and resolve this matter fairly. Ignoring my concerns leaves me no choice but to escalate this further, including pursuing legal action if necessary.
