I used this company in July/aug 2023 for a ride on mower I had bought that was failing to engage in gear

After calling the company it was quickly collected- which seemed a good start.
I assumed it would be sorted quite quickly, but ended up not hearing anything for several days, so chased towards the end of the week. I started feeling something was perhaps amiss when the owner seemed to not remember who I was and which mower it was.

After some prompting they investigated and told me the belts needed changing, which I instructed them to do.

I was called and told the belts had been changed but the “battery was flat”.
I thought this was odd as the battery had been fine dropped it off.
I told them to return it to me and I duly bought a new battery

Upon receipt of the “fixed” mower I first noticed it hadn’t been fully put it back together fully (battery compartment disassembled, bag of bolts returned etc). I then went and tried it with the new battery I had bought and found the mower dead as a dodo, not even trying to turn over. I even tried my 115Ah car battery and still nothing.

I called Paul (owner) and detailed I did not think the battery had a problem. So they duly had the mower back. Upon receipt I was told they had “broken a wire” when working on it and had now fixed it.
I said to Paul this was not particularly confidence inspiring that (a) the mower was damaged in his care, (b) returned to me in this state and (c) they were not able to tell the difference between a wiring issue and a dead battery

Upon receipt of the mower back a second time it seemed ok. I then realised the seat cutoff no longer worked (Ie when I got up from the seat then engine no longer cut off).
I called Paul again. I also pointed out that I had looked at the “new” belts that had been fitted and thought they looked worn /used, not new.
Paul said he would not have been dishonest with me and if he said they had been replaced, they would have been

Paul said I could send the mower back to him again, but by this point I had lost all confidence. I asked for my money back, minus the cost of the belts (which I was under the impression had been changed).
To Paul’s credit he returned me all of the money I paid (including cost of belts) as well as buying the battery off me that I had bought on his advice on “dead battery”

I then contacted a reputable mobile mower engineer who assessed the mower for me. This is what he said:
-the seat cutoff had been disabled and he was able to get it working again
-the belts had NOT been changed, they were old/worn ones. He told me he was 100% certain of this

I purchased a new belt set myself and had the mower engineer fit them. The mower has been absolutely fine ever since

Even though Paul seems a nice guy and was willing to attempt rectify issues and refund etc, the level of ineptitude I came across wasted a lot of my time and energy that I do not have to spare. I will not be using this company again

Great service, no pressure to buy and a really nice guy, bought a ride on mower and although the battery needed charging it still fired up and worked as it should, happy to recommend.

I’ve used this company a few times and have not been entirely happy , the first time I took it in was for a full service £140, after the service I went to use it a couple of months later for the first time, but it wouldn’t start, I took it back and was told the carburettor was not working due to it been blocked a further£60, I went to use it today but engine was spluttering and fuel was leaking from carburettor, I took it somewhere else where they said it has been fitted with wrong bits and seals hadn’t been changed and gaskets were brittle so they hadn’t been changed , will definitely not use this company again and would advise others to do the same
