They intentionally ripped you off from the beginning. I gave them the benefit of a doubt until I finally took my laptop to another store and found out not only IT WAS MY KEYBOARD, NOT MY MAINBOARD that was broken. And on top of that this Techgear store TOOK MY HARD-DRIVE. I can't believe there are still people doing such kind of things to others!

Full story in case you have time:

My laptop could not start, so I dropped by this store to get my laptop check. This was back in Sep 2024.

First visit: the guy at the store told me that the technician is out. I asked how much they would charge to get my laptop checked. The guy at the store said he did not know, promised to give me a call ON THE PRICE TO CHECK, before proceeding with anything. I was fooled enough to believe it 🙂 and the hell story began.

2nd interaction- via phone: after a day, I called them to check on my laptop, since I had not heard back anything. The guy at the store answered and said he had not have time to do anything and update me shortly. About a day later, another guy called and said MY MAINBOARD IS DEAD, and it would cost 200 pound to fix. At this stage, I thought there wasn't any costs for the initial check (since I usually don't pay for that back in Vietnam). Since i dont know much about laptopn, I had to trust him and told him to proceed. The store asked me to drop by to make the payment first beforehand, and I agreed.

Third interaction: I went to the store to make the payment. However, talking to the technician face-to-face, and got their offer to buy the laptops available at their stores, I had a feelings that I was being scammed. And I was right. I told them I need to think a bit

I then came back and checked with a friend, who is an IT person. She confirmed that I was probably got scammed.

Fourth interaction: i came back to the store and told them I don't want any other business, I just want my laptop back. At this stage, they told me I had to pay 50 POUND for the checking fee (). I was so taken aback at this stage, and told them that I was not informed about this fee anywhere. I also emphasized that I asked them to confirm the price with me before proceeding with anything. The guy at the store basically said "his boss" told him it was 50 pound or I would not get my laptop back

Subsequent interactions: i had back and forth calls with the store, basically "the boss". He basically yelled at me and gaslighted me that I did not appreciate the time they spent to check my laptop (which literally took 10mins when I visited another store later, and had them open up the laptop in front of me). He said was trying to trick them (wth?) by agreeing to do the fixing in the first place. I told him that this was a scam because he did not hold his part of the agreement (1) the store did not inform and get my consent on the 50 pound for the check-up, as initially agreed and (2) I agreed with the 200 pound fix initially, and was ok to drop by and make the payment. It was only because I realized I got scammed, that I did not proceed. He had not fixed the laptop. It was not that he fixed the laptop already and I did not pay.

Final part: I then contacted Citizens Advice Consumer service and got consulted that I should collect written document from the store to raise this case. I then dropped by at the store and agreed to pay 50 pound for the check, and asked for a receipt. At this stage, "the boss" at the store was there and told me he would not charge, and I could take my laptop and leave. Of course with a very impolite manner 🙂
I thought it was over until I got my laptop to another store to check and found out that
(1) NOT ONLY IT WAS ONLY THE KEYBOARD - THE MAINBOARD WAS FINE
(2) BUT MY HARDDRIVE WAS MISSING - BADICALLY THIS TECHGEAR STORE TOOK IT. All my data is in there, and apparently, I don't have any evidence that they took the hard drive
So - warning sign. Please just stay away from them.

When I broke my Samsung s10 plus screen I found this place with outstanding reviews and after visiting other repair shops at Swiss cottage and finchley Road I decided to get it replaced at Techgear and they fixed my screen within in a 2 hours and it could not have been done any better. Engineer gave me best advice and also made me feel ease about the whole repair process. I would definitely recommend them for any laptop , mobile and any sort of electronics repairs. Also prices are very competitive compared to other shops on near by area as I went to few shops.

I bought 2 windows business laptops and 2 MacBook Pro from techgear on 20th may for my company . I was looking for quite good deal as it was big purchase for business . I found Techgear on google and went there to check different kind of laptops at their store at Finchley Road and I was amazed with the selections of laptops . They have all kind of laptops and all other mobile and laptop accessories. Price was very reasonable and competitive compared to any retail stores . Staff was very helpful and friendly. And also they came to my office and setup all laptops and networking as well .
